The Odradek Institute

The Odradek Institute seeks to foster the study of music theories in a broad sense---not merely compositional practices and the theoretical structures which support them, but also musical acoustics and the scientific study of performance practices, the territory sometimes patchily covered by ethnomusicology, psychoacoustics, organology and music technology. There is no preference for the systems of one tradition or another or for newly developed systems; indeed, comparison, combination and bricolage are to be encouraged.  Visitors here may:

become acquainted with the institute, its projects and purposes,
enjoy these extensive listings of resources,
or enter into the Odradek Society.
You may also review the progress of certain of our home-grown projects:
a collection of Csound material, a computer language for music representation and a text on tuning.
