We are undertaking to compose an introductory textbook on scales and tuning intended for practicing musicians but which will, nevertheless, contain a clear explication of many topics the field at a level suitable for seasoned researchers who we hope will find it a welcome addition to their libraries. The comprehensiveness and even-handedness for which we strive will depend in no small part on advice from concerned members of the public. For this reason the director entreats all interested parties (educators, researchers, students, learned observers and so on) to offer him their opinions for the greater good. The work will appear here chapter-by-chapter, with new additions from time to time, as new redactions become available.
